Army says villagers’ re-education essential in combating opium threat

군부가 아편 위협에 대처하는 데 있어 주민들의 재교육이 필수적이라고 말했다

회의는 Mae Rim에 있는 제 7 포병대대 사령부에서 11월 22일에 열렸다. 회의는 마약 중독을 근절시키는데 초점이 맞추어졌으며, 제 3 육군 총사령관인 wannathip Wongwai 소장이 총책임을 맡았다.

Wannathip stated in his opening address that the first opium destruction project had already started, and would continue until April next year, with a total of 130 rai of land under opium cultivation already cleared.

Wannathip은 회견에 앞서 아편 근절을 위한 첫 번째 작전은 이미 시작됐으며 내년 4월까지 계속 진행될 것이라고 밝혔다. 또한 아편이 재배되던 130rai의 부지가 이미 깨끗이 정리되었다고 전했다.

The eradication programme will involve districts ranging from Ta Yong Yang in Tak, to Omkoi and include the Chiang Dao area, with at least 169 rai of opium targeted for destruction.

그 아편근절 작전은 Tak 지역의 Ta Yong Yang부터 Chiang Dao 지역을 포함한 Omkoi 까지 진행되며 적어도 169rai의 아편이 근절 목표로 설정되었다.

The Major General also asserted that in the last year the number of opium plantations had decreased.

소장은 전년도까지 아편재배의 수가 줄어들어왔다고 단언하였다.

Omkoi district was, however, still a target area for drug smugglers due to the number of unemployed people who were able to be persuaded to grow the crop, he said.

그러나 Omkoi지역은 여전히 곡물을 재배하도록 설득 당할 수 있다. 많은 수의 실업자 때문에 마약 밀수업자들이 노리는 지역이라고 그는 밝혔다.

Efforts are being made by the 3rd Army region 3’s drug combating centre to strictly control the situation, and to trace back to its sponsors any plantation found and destroyed.

Occupational skills training and education of local Omkoi villagers in the dangers of the drug trade are also solutions to the problems of illegal cultivation.

전문적 훈련과 마약 거래의 위험성을 Omkoi지역 주민에게 교육 하는 것 또한 불법 재배 문제의 해결 방안이다.

Wannathip estimates that there are at least 1,000 rai of opium fields in Chiang Mai province, but has confidence that these areas can be controlled and eradicated by the army’s specialist forces.

Wannathip은 치앙마이 지역에 최소한 1000rai의 아편 재배가 이루어지고 있다고 추산한다. 하지만 이 지역의 군의 특별 부대에 의해 조정되고 근절될 수 있다는 확신을 가지고 있다.
